LUCY ORTA: CONNECTOR MOBILE VILLAGE

Bellevue Art Museum, Bellevue Art Museum, Seattle

This exhibition, which surveys the last 10 years of Orta's work, features multi-functional clothing, survival kits, and environments or modular dwellings developed in collaboration with community groups from around the world that function practically and metaphorically to address the plight of those at risk. Orta calls her work “Instigator Sculpture,” a “catalyst between utopia and reality.” Rice and Lipka organized the works around the double cores of Bellevue's third floor galleries, and coded the walls in shades of white and grey to emphasize the works' color and shifting daylight conditions.
