KRANNERT ART MUSEUM VISION PLAN

University of Illinois/Krannert Art Museum, Urbana-Champaign, IL

Proposal 2008
Project 2008-2010

The KAM Vision Plan critically analyzes the current functioning of the 67,600sf Krannert Art Museum facilities (including galleries, cafe, Link Gallery, Kinkead Pavilion, administrative spaces, and surrounding grounds). The new organization simplifies circulation, clarifies wayfinding, increases usable gallery area and offers greater programming flexibility within the existing building footprint. The new gallery interiors, lighting, and HVAC distribution serve as a prototype for future gallery and lobby renovations that will amplify KAM's place as a cultural destination and premier venue for presenting art and arts programming.

The Plan also presents a series of practical architectural repairs/upgrades, optimized program configurations, and long term organizational/growth strategies, including the integration of a new Intermedia Lab facility. New permanent galleries were completed in two phases, opening in 2016.
